We’ve been previewing a ton of amazing upcoming shows here in the Philadelphia area, and for a good reason. Just look at the upcoming concert calendar (will be updated a lot this week due to even more great announcements coming your way) and realize how stacked it is.
But I feel bad. I feel bad because there’s a show coming up that may very well cast a shadow over the entire fall concert season, yet we haven’t mentioned it much.
Ms. Hill has reemerged into the spotlight recently with the help of the new documentary on Netflix, What Happened to Miss Simone, a chronicle of the life of American singer, musician and activist, Nina Simone. Aside from her work as a co-producer on the documentary’s accompanying soundtrack, Nina Revisited… A Tribute to Nina Simone, Hill contributed six songs to the compilation.
Hill has had quite the rocky, and often elusive time in the limelight, but her work revamping the legacy of Nina Simone may be doing more to help her own career. Reviews of recent shows, including a stop in Baltimore last weekend, are pouring in and they’re overwhelmingly positive.
We look forward to her stop in Reading next week, which is sure to bring Hill originals and Simone covers to live. Tickets still available here. And while you’re there, check out their event listing for more great shows, like East Coast Tsunami Festival featuring names like Wu-Tang Clan, Mobb Deep and Ice-T.
In anticipation of Ms. Hill’s big night, we leave you with her rendition of Nina Simone’s “Feeling Good,” which can be found on the soundtrack, and to get a peak of what you can expect live, click here to watch her perform the song on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon!
