If there’s one event to plan around this weekend, it’s this one.
Following in the footsteps of last November’s The Concert for Valor, D.C. will play host to the Global Citizen 2015 Earth Day Concert, which is presented by the Global Poverty Project and the Earth Day Network. Celebrate Earth Day’s 45th anniversary!
I could gush about the event’s objective (save the planet; save the people!), but for this post, let’s just delve into the A-list lineup.
The names kind of speak for themselves, yes? Add to that hosts Will.i.am and Soledad O’Brien and guest speakers like Don Cheadle (!) and Chris Martin from Coldplay, and it should be a fun show all around.
- Bring your bucket list so you can check off multiple items at once.
- Walk, bike, or take the Metro (mass transit to minimize pollution!). About 250,000 people are expected to attend. This show is going to turn the entire city and its ’burbs into a shit show. Just last weekend the cherry blossoms and the parade made everything horrible, but somehow everything was still beautiful. Let’s see if this holds this weekend.
- Pack your own picnic gear, food, and drinks – though concessions will be sold on-site (don’t litter while you’re there or fear judgement). I think no alcohol is allowed. Take that how you will.
- Doors open at 10 a.m. No set times will be released. They want you there for the long-haul, apparently.
Also, it’s going to be gorgeous out – 80 degrees and sunny. Unless the weather folks are confused. If you can find or have access to a rooftop near the mall, go with that! BBQ. Get some drinks in. Play games while you dance to the amazing artists.
