Spring is coming (okay I guess it’s kind of here already) and it’s time to let your freak flag fly! Here in Philly, we couldn’t ask for a better weekend of music to help us fly our freak flags.

Friday

Crizzly @ Soundgarden Hall

If you’re lookin’ to get down to some bangers this weekend, look no further than Spring Garden and Columbus Ave. Crizzly is bringing his bringing his self-branded “crunkstep” the one of the hottest venues in the city for a night EDM fans won’t forget any time soon. This young cat from Texas seems to have an affinity for the city of brotherly love, what with having the lyrics to the Fresh Prince theme song on his Facebook page. If it’s been some time since you’ve hit up SGH or you’re just trying to “rage” as the kids say, hit this up.

Tribal Seeds & The Movement @ The TLA

Who doesn’t love some reggae? Well… if you don’t actually love reggae, stay awae from the TLA Friday night because it’s gonna be all reggae’d out. If you are looking for some Jamaican dub, then this might be your move. While you’re there, be sure to check out Tribal Seeds’ supporting act, Philadelphia native band, The Movement!

Exmag & Gibbz @ Underground Arts *EDITOR’S PICK*

If you’re looking for something in between the extremes of raging and mellow/stoned, head to Underground Arts where you’ll see Exmag with special guest, Gibbz. As our EDITOR’S PICK this week, the Brooklyn trio bring their live act to Philly on Friday night and their genre-be-damned production – ranging from funk and down tempo to house – is sure to get you movin’. And soulful sounds of Gibbz, both on guitar and vocals, is sure to set the mood as well.

Saturday

Sage Francis @ Kung Fu Necktie

If you don’t mind heading a little bit into North Philly to check out one of the most legendary hip hop artists on the planet, then yeah, this might be your move Saturday night. Sage Francis, Mr. Strange Famous, himself, is in town for one night only at probably the most appropriate venue for him. If you’ve never been, KFN is a really cool bar and music venue that is sure to provide a real solid intimate experience for some dope verses.

Shpongle @ The Electric Factory

Or if you’d rather… uhh… space out, or go on a trip, or whatever… Honestly, I’m not even going to say anything more about Shpongle. If you know, then you already know. If you don’t know, just watch this video below. I’ll see you Saturday night.
